چکیده

Fat supplements based on palmitic acid (PA) or stearic (SA) are expected to have different effects milk production and nutrient metabolism in lactating dairy cows. In this study, the of prilled fat containing levels PA SA were tested 12 high-producing multiparous cows (pretrial yield = 53.4 ± 8.7 kg/d; mean SD) arranged a 4 × Latin square design with 21-d periods. Treatments control (CON; no supplemental fat), an enriched supplement (HP; 91% C16:0), (HS; 92.5% C18:0), blend (INT) fed at 1.95% diet dry matter. All contained oleic approximately 5% fatty acids. The HP treatment decreased matter intake (DMI) by 1.9 kg/d 1.1 compared CON, respectively. Milk was not changed treatment, but INT increased energy-corrected 2.7 HS. treatments 0.11 0.14 Additionally, <16 carbon acids (FA; de novo synthesized) 44 g/d 43 16-carbon FA (mixed source) 155 CON 64 relative INT. No effect apparent total-tract digestibility matter, organic neutral detergent fiber detectable. HS 10.3 10.5 percentage units HP, Total-tract 18-carbon lowest highest HP. conclusion, supplementing SA, mixture without decreasing intake. profile influences their DMI synthesis.

Effect of different levels of monensin in diets containing whole cottonseed on milk production and composition of lactating dairy cows

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of feeding different levels of monensin on feed intake, milk production and composition, and milk fattyacid profile in lactating Holstein cows. Four multiparous cows averaging 517 ± 47 (SD) kg in body weight and 101 ± 19.8 (SD) days in milk were housed individually in tie-stalls. The study was conducted as a 4 × 4 Latin square design for ...

Effects of different protein supplements on milk production and nutrient utilization in lactating dairy cows.

Sixteen (8 ruminally cannulated) multiparous and 8 primiparous lactating Holstein cows were used in 6 replicated 4 x 4 Latin squares to test the effects of feeding supplemental protein as urea, solvent soybean meal (SSBM), cottonseed meal (CSM), or canola meal (CM) on milk production, nutrient utilization, and ruminal metabolism. All diets contained (% of DM) 21% alfalfa silage and 35% corn sil...

Fatty Acid Digestibility of Fat Sources Fed to Dairy Cows and Effects on Concentration of Fat in Milk

Milk fat yield affects the price received for milk by dairy farmers, and given the rising feed costs, maximizing diet digestibility is critical for the economical viability of dairy farms. Although feeding animal-vegetable fat or coconut oil to dairy cows can increase energy intake, they sometimes cause milk fat depression (MFD). Feeding monensin has been found to increase feed efficiency and m...

Invited review: palmitic and stearic acid metabolism in lactating dairy cows.

Energy is the most limiting nutritional component in diets for high-producing dairy cows. Palmitic (C16:0) and stearic (C18:0) acids have unique and specific functions in lactating dairy cows beyond a ubiquitous energy source. This review delineates their metabolism and usage in lactating dairy cows from diet to milk production. Palmitic acid is the fatty acid (FA) found in the greatest quantit...
